Wow, I'm crying. But in the best way possible. It's fics like these that remind me how much I love being a part of Glee fandom, even when I'm not so happy with Glee itself, because fandom is full of wonderful talented writers like yourself who tell the stories that the show itself doesn't, and often, can't. And this story blew me away.

Schue is one of those characters I don't think much about. I don't particularly like him, don't really care for his storylines, and a lot of the time he does things that make me angry so I find it easier to try to ignore him. And I was upset (even though I knew it would happen) when he won teacher of the year, because I don't think he's a good teacher at all, but I chalked it up to one of those "but it's Glee" things.

But wow, this story. I think you did a brilliant job of dissecting Schue's character and why he does the things he does. I loved Kurt in this, critical and intelligent and empathetic. The way he sees all the teachers are dead-on. The part about Bieste kind of killed me, about how he felt sorry for her after he got over his initial anger and hoped she would overcome her hang-ups, because Kurt just cares so much about others. The way he sees everyone, the way you've written them, it's so perfect because you have captured their flaws and their humanity, but also their strengths. So it's not just about the things they've done wrong, but also the ways they try and the times they do get it right.

I think it was this part that did me in-

For a million different reasons, those were things that Mr. Schue couldn't teach Kurt, but he helped Finn learn them, and he helped Puck learn them – or at least he created the space where they could learn those things for themselves and try to teach them to each other, where Finn could learn to be a friend and brother to the eccentric queer kid, and the eccentric queer kid could learn to love the bumbling imperfection of humanity.

And isn't that just it? Though Schue might not have done for Kurt what he could have, should have, in the end, it wasn't about that. What Schue did for Finn and Puck and Rachel did have an impact on Kurt. And Kurt did have other people in his life pushing and encouraging him and advocating for him, which I don't think a lot of the other characters had, so for them, Schue was it. He might be a terrible teacher, but if you think about it that way, it's easy to see why the kids would push so hard for him to win the award.

This review is really long already, but there are so many other things I loved about this fic. Blaine and their relationship- it's beautiful and perfect and everything I wish would happen on Glee. Rachel and her campaigning along with Finn putting up posters in the bathroom, omg. That scene of them all together in the hotel room at Nationals. And the part with Senor Martinez, how he is actually a good teacher and challenged Kurt and then Kurt stopped caring about how hot he was and wished he was straight because there needs to be more straight teachers like that? Got me right in the feels.

One more utterly perfect part I love-

“Finn, Puck, Sam, me – Mr. Schue, even, I think – we all want to be men. We want to be grown up. We want to be fearless. We want be confident, and to be ourselves, and not to care so much what people think.” Blaine lowers his hand to hold on to Kurt’s. “But we’re all scared little boys compared to you.”

Kurt Hummel is the best. (And so is Blaine.)

Anyway, I've rambled on long enough; this story is beautiful and you are an amazing writer. Thank you for writing this and sharing it!!
