Thank you! I've never written a fic before that included so many of the canon characters in so short a space, and I'm quite relieved that they come across as true-to-character.
I think my favorite part, though, is that the teacher that Kurt seems to admire most is one that challenges him, that pushes him, that doesn't just give him what he wants or tell him what he wants to hear.
There's a fic that I've heard of but never read, in which Kurt has to adjust to teachers' higher expectations at Dalton, and how that makes him fall in love with learning. I wish I knew the name of it so I could go read it, because I think it's mere existence influenced me here.
I think it's also influenced by Kurt's relationship with his dad, who does all those things you list, and is a great parent and role model for Kurt because of it.
So much more I want to say about examples of Kurt being confidentally reticent in canon, but if I get started on that, I will never go to bed ...
