Fly-by recs
Apr. 15th, 2012 11:28 pmI haven't been reading as much fic as usual lately because I'm writing like a ... person who writes a whole heck of a lot, but I've still found some awesome hidden gems. Because of the recent hiatus, a lot of what I've been reading has been AU rather than episode fillers or otherwise canon-compatible. I still love canon, but I also love the things that can happen when writers in the fandom take a point of time in canon and give it a twist to see how things might have turned out differently.
In the Klaine realm, there's been Through the Hidden Door from
judearaya. It's just beautiful - a lot of sadness, but also a lot of beauty and a happy ending. Go read it now – or start it, at least. (It's a completed multi-chapter of about 25,000 40,000 words.)
I've been slowly going through
fictocriticism's stuff and loving all of it. The CrissColfer RPF Character Bleed made me have all sorts of deep feelings and thoughts - a great example of why fanfic is real art. There's plenty of Klaine on
fictocriticism's journal, but also other ships – you can stick to the ships you love or expand your boundaries. Why,
fictocriticism got me to expand my own boundaries this weekend with a short little piece that actually got me shipping Seblaine. Yeah, it could have been temporary insanity, or it could have been awesome writing. I vote for the latter.
Speaking of multishipping,
cacophonylights has me rooting for Kurtbastian with the WIP A Change In the Weather. She's also got a Sebklaine series of stories called the Hundersmythe 'Verse. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner is the longest and my favorite of them.
Last but not least, go read everything on
likeasouffle's (Jamie's) journal. The variety of stories is incredible – lots of different characters and ships, from G (really, G! how often do you run across an awesome G-rated fic in this fandom?) to NC-17. I recently enjoyed zir set of six trans-themed drabbles (all but the last are G or PG-13) and all the ficlets in the "not an RPF" Tia/Warren/Reese universe.
So when I rec things, I often get my stomach in a twist about not mentioning someone's awesome fic that I love love love but am just forgetting, because it's not like I actually keep a list somewhere of the fics I've read recently (yeah, I should, I know). So feel free to browse my memories for other recs. There are things on some of the memes that I'll be adding to my memories once they get posted in journal form (like "One Good Day" by
anxioussquirrel).
