The story goes -- via Mum because I don't remember it -- that I was harrassed by a group of girls when I was around 6. Mum gave me the good old "ignore them" advice. The next day Mum asked how my day went I complained that I sat there ignoring them but they kept kicking me. Lil' Annie was not bright enough to work out that unsaid step of "ignore them and walk away". *snort*
After that, I hung out in the library -- I was a total bookworm anyway so it wasn't a hardship -- and knew the important part of "leave the area" and "go report it to a teacher". But luckily I wasn't really bullied. I mean, a couple of incidences but nothing ongoing enough to make school miserable.
(Mind you, this is why changing schools frequently isn't a bad thing. Due to moving, local zoning, new schools being built, and one case of bullying/not fitting in, I went to 4 primary schools and 5 high schools. People tend to think that's a bad thing but swear to god, it's much better to be in a new school than face 7-12 years of being picked on by the same groups.)
...hmm. I went off on a tangent there. I was just going to pitch in with the "blaming the victim doesn't solve the problem" thing, and got distracted.
