I haven't been reading as much fic as usual lately because I'm writing like a ... person who writes a whole heck of a lot, but I've still found some awesome hidden gems. Because of the recent hiatus, a lot of what I've been reading has been AU rather than episode fillers or otherwise canon-compatible. I still love canon, but I also love the things that can happen when writers in the fandom take a point of time in canon and give it a twist to see how things might have turned out differently.

In the Klaine realm, there's been Through the Hidden Door from [livejournal.com profile] judearaya. It's just beautiful - a lot of sadness, but also a lot of beauty and a happy ending. Go read it now – or start it, at least. (It's a completed multi-chapter of about 25,000 40,000 words.)

I've been slowly going through [livejournal.com profile] fictocriticism's stuff and loving all of it. The CrissColfer RPF Character Bleed made me have all sorts of deep feelings and thoughts - a great example of why fanfic is real art. There's plenty of Klaine on [livejournal.com profile] fictocriticism's journal, but also other ships – you can stick to the ships you love or expand your boundaries. Why, [livejournal.com profile] fictocriticism got me to expand my own boundaries this weekend with a short little piece that actually got me shipping Seblaine. Yeah, it could have been temporary insanity, or it could have been awesome writing. I vote for the latter.

Speaking of multishipping, [livejournal.com profile] cacophonylights has me rooting for Kurtbastian with the WIP A Change In the Weather. She's also got a Sebklaine series of stories called the Hundersmythe 'Verse. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner is the longest and my favorite of them.

Last but not least, go read everything on [livejournal.com profile] likeasouffle's (Jamie's) journal. The variety of stories is incredible – lots of different characters and ships, from G (really, G! how often do you run across an awesome G-rated fic in this fandom?)  to NC-17. I recently enjoyed zir set of six trans-themed drabbles (all but the last are G or PG-13) and all the ficlets in the "not an RPF" Tia/Warren/Reese universe.

So when I rec things, I often get my stomach in a twist about not mentioning someone's awesome fic that I love love love but am just forgetting, because it's not like I actually keep a list somewhere of the fics I've read recently (yeah, I should, I know). So feel free to browse my memories for other recs. There are things on some of the memes that I'll be adding to my memories once they get posted in journal form (like "One Good Day" by [livejournal.com profile] anxioussquirrel).

Yay! One of my favorite writers in this fandom, [livejournal.com profile] lesley_green posted a new story today. It's a short gen piece called "You're Precious" and it's about Blaine and how he sees his relationship with Kurt, and how he needs to learn his own importance, focused around Kurt's NYADA plans. Like all of her stuff, it's full of verisimilitude, and that makes me happy, even when it also makes me a little verklempt. And also, she gave me the honor of letting me beta it, so yay, that was happy for me because I got to read it first and spew more thinky thoughts at her than I usually do.

----

And news from me, (aka, why haven't I posted any fic in ages): So I've been working on this fic – or rather, it's been working on me. Because it was supposed to be maybe 10,000 words, and now I have, like 43,000 words. I'm thinking now it may end up at 50-60,000, but the last time I guessed, I thought it was going to be 17,000, so I just shouldn't.

I keep thinking I should take a break to finish up one of my shorts, but I get going on this big story every day, and so that's what I work on. So, there will be lots to read when it comes around.

After I posted my BIOTA story, [livejournal.com profile] likeasouffle mused about who Kurt kissed during the spin-the-bottle game at Rachel's party.

Which I hadn't even thought about. Ugh.

Well. Zie wrote this delightful piece and it's my new headcanon.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] whiterose0328 married my BIOTA story, which makes me so so happy because my stories love to get married early and often, and can be loyal and loving companions to one or to many simultaneously, and love the comfort and domestic tranquility of marriage to awesome Klainers. And zie wrote this lovely fic as a wedding present. It's got an awesome Burt and the happy Hudmels, but mostly it's just Kurt and Blaine being adorably (and maybe a little adorkably) in love.

How can I be the only person who has yet commented on [livejournal.com profile] nielrian's awesome audio blog response to 3.05? It's not even 20 minutes long. Go listen to it now and comment! And then download all her podfic because she is the best and she *always* makes me cry at the fluffy parts.

So, if you read my first fanfic, you know that I'm a sex-positive type when two people are in love. So I was so glad to find this lovely story the other day by [livejournal.com profile] flaming_muse called One Saturday Night. It's about Kurt and Blaine's first time, told from Blaine's perspective, and Kurt is so seductive in it – mostly with his eyes, because that's just how Kurt is. It's sexy but it's not porny (IMHO) and it stole my heart. I've since been reading through lots of flaming_muse's stuff and it's all wonderful. (Also, don't miss flaming_muse's Ties if, like me, you were caught offguard by Blaine's ensembles the first episode of this season. It explains a lot.)

One that I've read multiple times this week is On a Summer's Day by [livejournal.com profile] what_larks. It's summary is "Kurt’s summer, told in four months and four senses." It's short, basically a prose poem, and it is sensual and vivid and gah unf (even though what_larks is a self-proclaimed prude and does not write about sex). Read it and faint with gladness.
